The Little Camera that Could
Most of the reviews I've read about this camera say it's cheap, not up to Nikon's standards, and made out of horrible plastic. They're very wrong. The camera's lighter than most manual cameras I've held, but it feels very sturdy. The lens it comes with is just fine for students and beginners, and I'll hold on to it even though I plan on getting a fixed 50mm Nikon lens very soon. Still, for the price, you can't beat it!If you've read other reviews about how cheap this camera feels and you're weary, all I can say is go to a camera store and hold it. If you want something much more rugged you'll pay a lot more money. If you want something to start shooting with then get this camera. It'll also help you start building a good Nikon kit so if you decide to upgrade bodies later you won't have to repurchase all your lenses.Great clarity, great quality

The Newest Incarnation of Nikon's Veritable Classic.
The FM series of cameras from Nikon has a long and distinguished history. The FM10 is a totally manual camera with through the lens center weighted metering. The beauty of the manual system is that you have a complete range of shutter speeds if the batteries fail. Additionally, you get to set the camera settings how you want to without trying to out think and out smart the auto programming that most cameras have now. In other words, you get to take the picture; not the camera. The FM10 is a sturdy camera that has one of the widest ranges of lenses available to it. There is not a lens that you can think of that can not be found for this camera. Beginners or professionals: anyone that wants to be a photographer and not just a button pusher should get this camera.

A return to basics- with Nikon quality
I've been using Nikons for over 20 years, starting with my first used and battered Ftn. Over that time I've a accumulated a dozen Nikkor lenses and numerous accessories, as well as an assortment of bodies. One thing that's been missing in recent years from the Nikon line is a reasonably priced entry-level manual camera. The cheaper Nikons have tended to be fully automated cameras, and the cheapest manual Nikon still being made was, until recently, the FM2 at well over $500.If you work the way I do, you need a manual camera and don't have a lot of use for automation and autofocusing. If you own an old Nikon and some old Nikkor lenses, you may want a simple manual camera body that can accomodate them. If you're a student starting out, or an artist on a budget, you need a manual camera. If you fit into any of these categories, the FM10 is a great choice. It may not be as rugged as a $1200 F3 or a $2500 F5, but it's well made and should last many years. I'm not a fan of...

Great fully manual 35mm
This 35mm is pretty much the perfect college kid film camera. It wont spoon feed you when it comes to learning, which will really help you in the long run. In the age of "press this button and you're focused", this camera is one of the few 35mm's left that doesn't have AF. Also wont change exposure levels to what the camera suggests(such as AV or TV mode some cameras have), this gives you the freedom to be creative as some shots have a whole different mood if underexposed a stop or overexposed a bit. As for manual focus, it's something you need to be able to do as a photographer. Sometimes the computer in your camera just doesn't focus perfectly on that eye you want in focus, or for something as precise as macro photography which has very shallow depth you're going to need pinpoint accuracy that a computer can not do for you. This lens is great because it's like the vintage 35mm except you don't have to worry about the light meter or any other small part inside of it...

AWESOME!!!
This is the best camera ever, when compared to others the FM10 blew it away, the FM was much more durable and takes better pictures (my friend has one of the competitors) and now that she's seen mine, she is very jealous! The pictures are outstanding. Built to last and if you're a beginner to a pro I think you'll be pleased! I was just starting out as a photographer and now after 2 years I still can't put it down. If you're thinking about buying this camera, don't, just get it!!

It's True -- Fuji Film IS Superior
...and not just the 400 film. The 100 and 200 films are excellent too!I had two rolls of film with me on an outing at one of Long Island's beatiful bays and inlets. One was Kodak and the other was Fuji. I took pictures of pretty much the same things: of boats docked or out sailing, of inlet scenery (green plants hanging over the water), etc. When I got the pictures back, Kodak was okay, but the ones that were taken with Fuji film were absolutely stunning. The pictures were crisp with vibrant colors. One of my favorite pictures was a picture of a sailing boat docked at a private area, with trees and plants framed around it. The greens in the trees and plants were truly every hue of green you would expect had you been there and so were the various murky shades of blue in the water and the contrasting white of the boat. The ashy shades of the dock itself were picked up nicely and the browns of the trees' bark can be clearly seen, making a nice foil for all the green shades in...

One word - WOW!
On an outing to the park with my nieces, I shot 5 rolls of film. I used several different film types: Kodak Gold 200, Fuji Superia X-tra 400, Fuji Superia X-tra 800, and Fuji color slide film. By far, the best pictures were from the Fuji 400 speed film. BAM!! The colors just jump out and grab you. Great skin tones. The grains on this film are superb when enlarged to 8x10. I am looking forward to trying Fuji's 100 and 200 speed films.

Far better than any comparable Kodak
While the picture quality of the 400 speed doesn't quite compare to that of the 100 speeds, this film is simply awesome. The sometimes artificial colors (punchy reds and deep blues) really bring out the 'pop' in most scenes (especially grey days). In terms of an all around consumer film, this is simply the best and is what I use when I shoot with my P&S. What makes this film so spectacular is that even with the higher speed, you don't have to sacrifce picture quality and color saturation, making it possible to hand-hold even in dim or night situations. The colors are great and the picture quality is nearly indistinguishable from slower speed films. Simply put, the only film that I like more is Fuji Reala.

A Classic!
This is a great camera, it is a little outdated (it was made between 1976 and 1986) but takes wonderful pictures, considering if you know how to use it. It has a bit of a learning curve, you have to know how to meter and focus the camera by hand as it cannot do that by itself and you can't just snap the picture because then the lighting and focusing may be off. I would recommend this camera to anyone who is a serious photographer, a hobbyist, or someone who prefers film to digital. A great camera by any means, shame that they don't make cameras like this much anymore.Note: If you have glasses (as I do) it may be hard to read the meter in the view finder so you have been warned.

For Appreciation
I've always said that people today don't have much appreciation for most of the arts they take on as a hobby (in this case photography). If you're serious about photography as a hobby or part-time do yourself a favor and buy a film camera before splurging on a DSLR. It may seem unproductive but it's anything but. A film camera will force you (and help you) to learn the terminology involved in DSLR's and photography in general. You WILL learn techniques even if you don't take any course what-so-ever.I got this camera (Canon AE-1) and it's successor, the Canon AE-1 Program, as a gift from my parents. The cameras where the same ones they bought when the model was launched and I was surprised to see them still function perfectly easily rivaling entry level SLR's. I've shot with both cameras and prefer them to my Canon digital SLR. The only real cons with shooting film is the price of film vs. the price of digital storage and the interval between taking the shot and seeing the...

Canon AE-1 (not program model)
I just received this camera yesterday and already finished a practice roll of fujifilm superia xtra 800 film. I only killed 2 pics because of the loading process that I'm not used to(advancing the film and then making a few blank shots to get to 1), and rewinding at the end (hard to tell if it's all rewound), but the pics came out nice! It's a bit heavy, but I got used to the controls quickly and had fun:) I'd definitely recommend this camera for anyone with a desire to return to 35mm film. With patience and learning, the AE-1 will produce some fantastic results!

Nikon FM10 35mm Camera Kit Review I really hope that this short review is of some help to those who are out there searching for a nice and affordable camera to buy. The Nikon FM10 is a durable and dependable 35mm film camera. In my case it was the Ricoh KR-5 Super II (Pentax K mount) and her’s was the Nikon FM10. In addition, we’ve stopped using digital compacts when we both switched to using iPhone, since the camera included in that was close enough in quality to make a digital compact superfluous.
